My rights and wrongs over 2 weeks

Breece Hall had me worried for a week.

Maybe you don’t remember, but I wrote a Brief about the New York Jets running back early in the off-season, outlining why I wanted nothing to do with him in fantasy this year.

Then he goes off for 145 total yards on 21 touches against a solid Steelers defence in Week 1.

Hall fell back down to earth in Week 2, but I must admit, he looks like he has a lot of juice — similar to what made him a young sensation two years ago.

Time will tell if I undervalued him this season.

That got me thinking about what else I’ve been “right” or “wrong” about through two weeks of regular-season action.

Let’s review, shall we?

What I’ve been wrong about:

The Houston Texans’ defence can’t carry this team…

I have the Texans as my AFC South division winners, and right now that looks like a pipedream the way the offence is playing.

I knew the offensive line would be worrisome, but I don’t think I could have predicted it would be this bad.

The Texans are giving up a sack every 10 dropbacks, the fourth-worst rate in the NFL.

Meanwhile, the offence has scored just 28 points, the fewest in the league. It’s really too bad, because the defence has allowed just 34 points.

It’s been tough to watch, and I don’t think it gets better anytime soon. This team is 0-2 and will need to scratch and claw to have a chance at the playoffs.

Drake London will be an elite fantasy WR…

Of course, it’s still super early and things can change in a hurry (maybe in a favourable mathcup this week 👀), but the early returns on Drake London have been dissapointing.

You drafted him early second round to potentially be your WR1, and he’s currently the WR55.

He caught three passes for 49 yards in Week 1, then reeled in eight balls for 55 yards last weekend. Week 2 was particularly disappointing, though, because Michael Penix Jr. targeted him 15 times.

This is a guy who I thought could finish as a top-five option this season, but he has yet to show it.

What I’ve been right about:

The Chicago Bears are still a year away…

The Chicago Bears might’ve been the off-season champs, but it’s also possible that we don’t see the fruits of their acquisitions until next season.

Much of the football world lauded the Bears for their moves and were ready to pencil them into a playoff spot before the season started.

Not me.

I have the Bears finishing last in the NFC North and fans leaving the season disappointed once again. I don’t think it will be bad for much longer — I believe Calbe Williams will grasp Ben Johnson’s offence, and this will be a very competitive team a year from now.

There’s going to be some tough lessons until then.

One thing I fear, however, is that it gets ugly this season. Johnson’s personality can rub people the wrong way, especially if he’s not backing it with wins, so I wonder if friction can lead to things unravelling inside the locker room in the Windy City.

The Miami Dolphins are poised for a top-10 pick…

At this rate, Mike McDaniel might be lucky to see October.

To me, this always seemed like the most likely outcome for the Dolphins, who had a turbulent off-season that led me to wonder if they were actually trying to get better.

Between the Tyreek Hill saga, Tua Tagovailoa’s head injuries, the Jalen Ramsey trade and the club essentially saying, “Let’s run it back” after going 8-9 last season, the Fins seemed destined for failure.

McDaniels’ offence looked competent last week, but Tua remains a lower-tier quarterback, and the defence continued to struggle.

I don’t see that changing, especially entering tonight’s road contest against the Buffalo Bills.

A bad loss tonight would certainly fire up his seat to 100 degrees, and should Miami fall at home to another divisional opponent in the New York Jets in Week 4 on Monday Night Football, McDaniel might be singing his swan song.

The Los Angeles Chargers are changing the guard…

They were my pick to finally end the Kansas City Chiefs’ run of dominance in the AFC West, and my dark-horse Super Bowl contenders out of the AFC.

Jim Harbaugh has this team looking like all that and more while cruising to 2-0 out of the gate.

The Bolts have allowed just 30 points through two weeks (the fewest in the NFL), while the offence has completley shocked everyone, as offensive co-ordinator Greg Roman — known for his vaunted rushing attack — is dialling up passes at 14.8% over expectation.

Justin Herbert looks fantastic with arguably the best supporting cast of his career, and this team does not look like it’s slowing down anytime soon.

The Chargers have a big opportunity this week at home, too, as their third straight divisional opponent, the Denver Broncos, are paying a visit.

A win would truly give this team a stranglehold on the AFC West.
